PM: Leave Greece to Do its Job in Peace

On May 7 from the Ionian island of Meganissi where he attended the 4th National Conference of Small Islands, Prime Minister George Papandreou sent a clear message to everyone to leave Greece in peace to finish its task, responding this way to Spiegel-Online allegations that Greece would exit the Eurozone.

"No such scenario has been discussed even in our unofficial contacts. [...] I call upon everyone in Greece and abroad, and especially in the EU, to leave Greece alone to do its job in peace," said Papandreou stressing that "these scenarios are borderline criminal."

Meanwhile, Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou participated in an unofficial meeting called by the President of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker in Luxembourg on May 6. "During this meeting Greece's participation in the Eurozone was neither raised nor discussed, as was irresponsibly reported by certain media for their own reasons," the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

On his part, Jean-Claude Juncker said that "we have not been discussing the exit of Greece from the euro area. This is a stupid idea. It is an avenue we would never take." Ministry of Finance: Announcement concerning an article about the possible exit of Greece from the Eurozone

Posted: 09 May 2011 03:21 AM PDT

The Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Bucharest has recently organized an event titled Travelling to East Macedonia and Thrace to promote less known areas in Northern Greece. The region was introduced to the public from a different and less known perspective, its architectural treasures, which were presented by architects Kalliopi Dimou and Sorin Istudor.

The two architects revealed local charms that may help a potential Romanian tourist discover a world full of history and sites. The event was coupled with a photo exhibition by Romanian news agency photo journalist Lucian Muntean.

East Macedonia and Thrace is one of the thirteen peripheries of Greece. It consists of the northeastern parts of the country, along with the islands of Thassos and Samothrace. Major cities include Alexandroupoli, Kavala, Xanthi, Drama and Komotini.
